I’ve had two different players claim that they were using Sneak Attack to gain advantage on their attack roll, and that just doesn’t make sense – you need advantage before you can use Sneak Attack (but see below). Let’s begin with one that should be obvious: Sneak Attack does not give you advantage on your attack roll. Once per turn, you can deal an extra 1d6 damage to one creature you hit with an attack if you have advantage on the attack roll.
